A look back at 2024
Last year saw several milestones for Vancouver as we accelerated our preparations for the FIFA World Cup 26™. Here are some key highlights: -
February 2024: FIFA revealed the 2026 match schedule. Vancouver will host seven matches, including five group stage games and two knockout rounds—the Round of 32 and Round of 16. See the full schedule at
www.vancouverfwc26.ca/matches.
-
June 2024: We announced that the FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver™ would be held at Hastings Park (PNE) from June 11 to July 19, 2026, featuring live entertainment, cultural showcases, food, and more. It will be the ultimate destination for fans without match tickets. See the full
release here.
-
September 2024: We hosted a contest for BC artists to design Vancouver's Host City Poster, offering a chance to win up to $25,000 CAD. The contest has closed, and the winner will be announced soon. See the full
release here.
-
July 2024 - January 2025: Vancouver announced a Venue-Specific Training Site at Killarney Park. This will be where global teams prepare for their World Cup matches in Vancouver. The site will feature lights, locker rooms, and a press conference room. Initial plans to use Memorial South Park as a training site were withdrawn when a letter of intent between the City/UBC/Whitecaps was signed earlier this month. Learn more at
